Grade 5 - Literacy

Fusun Yemez

Hello Everyone,

Welcome back to Term 4.

First of all I would like to thank all the parents who came to the Parent Teacher Interviews. It was great to see you all again as we discussed your child's ever growing progress. I would also like to say that I am extremely glad to be back at work and that I have missed all of you so much! I hope everyone has had a great holiday and is ready to go full steam ahead to reach the end of this educational year. We can see the finish line, so push yourselves to be the best that you can be to ensure you take home the gold and make yourselves and your parents proud. My lovely homeroom class 5A, planned a huge welcome back surprise party for me (with the help of some lovely teachers) and I just wanted to take the time to acknowledge that here. Thank you to all my wonderful little angels in 5A and anyone else who was involved for organising such a thoughtful welcome back gift! I greatly appreciate it.

This term our literacy focus is on Poetry and Figurative Language. Students are working extremely hard to be able to identify, understand and apply various forms of figurative language in their writing. They have already begun to write some fabulous poems. Take a look at our writing walls:

Here are some posters we made describing ourselves with similes.

Please remember that homework is due every Friday. This includes the Reading Eggs tasks. They receive one Lesson and one Book each week that they must complete. These tasks are extremely important as they help develop reading comprehension.

Please also ensure that your child studies for their weekly Spelling Test. They are tested every Friday and the words can be found in their homework booklets.

Looking forward to a great Term. It's great to be back!

Kindest Regards,
Ms. Fusun
